Strong Editions Review

I lay the blame squarely on Dr. Edwin Land. Before he disrupted the visual World with his marvellous invention, I could give a rats ass for Photography.

A passing fad I thought. Requiring enormous effort to produce negligible results.

First you had to buy film. Then, put it in your little Brownie box. Then, you had to wait until the light was(hopefully) right before snapping your visual masterpiece. Which you could not see until you sent the film away to be processed!

And when, after several days to a week of singing: “Someday my prints will come”, more often than not, the results were “filed” in the garbage.

Poloriod Land Camera

But then one day, the World of photography was upended with the arrival of the Poloroid Land Camera.

This was certifiable Magic! No waiting to see your pix. No sending film away. No waiting. You just snapped. And second later — your snap was alive!

I was hooked. And that “image addication” has continued to the present day. To the max.

Full Disclosure: I am a serious photo collector.

While others blow $500 on a watch, I invest the same amount in an original(often limited edition) Photograph.

Wet Fall

And that continuing passion leads me to this review of Strong Editions. A new site dedicated to Original Limited Edition Photography.

Now, I realize you may not be a collector like me. But after seeing what Strong Editions has to offer, you may just be joining me in the collectors circle!

What attracts me to Strong Editions, other than the consistent quality of the images is variety.

Most photo sites concentrate on one aspect of photographic art. Landscapes, portraits, nudes, etc.

Strong Editions covers all these bases. And more.

Particularly original is the “Girls in the Trees” series. An innovative blending of two of art’s classic archetypes — Nature and the female form.

Girls in the Trees

The striking color images of Girls in the trees are complimented and offset by the “Way Old Geezers” series.

Captured in Black and White infared, this celebration of thousand year old Olive trees pays an etheral and timeless tribute to these ancient giants.

Returning to color photography, the “True Colors” series, as the name implies, focuses on unenhanced images of the natural World. Trees, flowers, lava covered rocks with vibrant saturated tones.

So overpoweringly present, they seem artifical and other-Worldly. When, in fact, they are a magnificent confirmation of Nature’s “True Colors.”

True Colors

The combination of Color and infared images in the “Ruined Beauty” series are further enhanced by the varied subject matter. Old castles covered with centuries of nature’s growth. As if they were, in fact swallowed whole. Statues. a Staircase. A wicker chair in a garden.

Ruined Beauty

At the risk of sounding cliche, I think there’s something for every photographic taste at Strong Editions.

Bottom Line: It doesn’t matter if you’re not — or don’t want to become a collector. What’s important is that you enjoy and appreciate.
